Your Questions About Solar Battery Charger

Laura asks…

How long can you leave a solar battery charger hooked up to your auto?

My car battery goes dead if I don’t start it every 2-3 days. I want to go away for 2 weeks or so.. would I be able to leave a solar battery charger hooked up to my auto for that amount of time?
I haven’t bought one yet just collecting information right now.

Michael answers:

Its likely that you battery may just need to be replaced. Your battery should always start unless its been two months or more. If you battery was dead for a long period of time it may have sulfated in which case it will probably be cheapest to just replace it.

It may also be that your alternator is not charging it up. You can take it to a shop and see or you can measure the voltage with a cheep multimeter. It should be at or above 14v when the car is running(if not bad alternator) and 12.5v and above when the car is off( if not bad battery).
Multimeter:

A solar charger is a good idea to make sure your battery stays topped of and never stays dead for a long time. A solar charger that costs less than $100 is not going to hurt your battery. Its power output is useful, but small compared to one that you plug into the wall. I wired a 15watt one into my old car permanently, it works great.

Daniel asks…

Which wire of this solar battery charger attaches of the positive post?

I’m installing a solar battery charger for my lawn tractor. The instructions says attach the positive wire(+) to the positive red post of the battery and the negative wire to the negative post.
However, both wires look the same except that one wire has a white stripe the entire length. Which wire is the positive?

Michael answers:

Yes…the white stripe wire is the positive…the solid black is the negative….

Sandra asks…

is it possable to build a 9v solar charger for a square battery?

I am fed up with constantly buying batterys while I am camping and so I bought a solar powered battery charger. the only problem is that it does not charger 9v cells. can any one recommend a way of constructing one.
At present, I have a 12V solar panel rated at 4.8w. that should suffice for power requirement. what I don’t want is for the battery to be overcharged.

Michael answers:

Disregard Johann, he doesn’t know that transformers work only on AC.

Probably voltage output is too low to charge a 9 volt battery.

You can buy another charger, or add a DC-DC converter to boost the 3 volts to 9 volts. Probably cheaper to get another charger.

Nancy asks…

is there a solar battery charger for nimh battery?

I have heard of a solar battery charger for NiCd battery, but is there a charger for NiMh battery?

Michael answers:

Sunpak Solar Flashlight 1350mAh and USB NiMH Battery Charger on Amazon

William asks…

A solar battery charger?

I want to get a solar battery charger to keep my campers battery maintained while on camping weekends. The place we go is wooded and the collector panel will most likely be often shaded. Will it still work? will pick best answer.

Michael answers:

I would not say very well. Solar means it needs sunshine and about 8 to 10 hours. Can you extend the wire and place the panel up high or out further into the sun. We have solar fence chargers and they work 21 days without sun when fully charged. But do not draw the amp that you do. You can’t use an electric charging system?

Your Questions About Solar Electricity Facts

Donald asks…

How about we get the facts straight? Instead of spreading falsehoods?

The neocons are at it again–they’ve spent years fighting envorimental reform and now are trying to slander Al Gore. Here’s the facts (look them up in the news stories if you don’t want to take my word for it:

1) a neocon group (Tennessee Center for Policy research) claimed Gore uses a lot of electricity and is being a hypocrite.
2) This group lied about contacting the power company–and the figures they published for Gore’s power use were exaggerated.
3) Al Gore is currently in the process of converting his home to solar energy
4) In the meantime, Gore is purchasing carbon credits (at hs own expense) to balance out his energy use.

Oh dear! Seems like the neocons aren’t being entirely honest. Imagine that!

Michael answers:

Reality has a distinct liberal bias.

Since the right-wing crackpots can’t confront the message, they attack the messenger.

Joseph asks…

Wondering if anyone can add to a list of pro’s and con’s for life in 1700′s in comparison to modern life.?

If we had to live back then, but could improve life with medicine, plumbing, and electricity (solar power) what other bare necessities could be included that wouldn’t destroy the infrastructure too dramatically? Political and social aspects appreciated as well.
The fact that they grew their own food, no processed foods, additives, was a pro. A con would be that food didn’t last as long… can anyone add more examples?
And no, this is not for home work!

Michael answers:

CONS:
You likely lived in something resembling an absolute monarchy and had little or no say in government.
You were probably illiterate.
Besides charitable religious institutions, there was no welfare network and starving to death was an option.
You could be thrown in jail for little or no reason. Forever.
You could have your head cut off for writing mean things about rich people.
As a woman, you’d likely have to marry whoever your parents told you to, or they’d at least have to approve it.
All you’d have to look forward to in the 1800s would be working in a damn factory.

PROS:
At least you would die young.

Mary asks…

Between yellowstone being due to erupt and the fact the polar shifts might knock out electricity for 10 years?

Will I even have a future? Seriously. I’ve heard that the solar flares occuring during a polar shift could knock out electricity for 10 years. And that yellowstone (whose ground has been enlarging) would basically wipe out America (I live in Ohio).

I’m the type of person to have panic attacks over dying so don’t tell me there’s nothing I could do anyways. Just tell me if I’d ever really have a chance to live my life if his happened (in 16)

Michael answers:

The Yellowstone volcano is definitely the biggest volcano in the U.S. And one of the biggest in the world. There have been three enormous eruptions in the last 2.1 million years. The ash from these eruptions covered about three quarters of the U.S. West of the Mississippi (mainly excepting Northern California and the Pacific Northwest).

The last eruption occurred 640,000 years ago. Both based on past eruptions and on what is known about current conditions in Yellowstone, there will not be a new eruption for some thousands of years. In other words, an eruption should be well down on the list of your concerns.

Since there are a couple of phenomena that involve the magnetic poles (NOT the geographic poles), let’s look at both.

First, over time the location of the magnetic North Pole moves. This is a short term phenomena that has been known since 1831 and has been shown to move almost constantly.

Geological studies have shown that the North and South Magnetic Poles have reversed many time in the past. It is a process that takes thousands of year to occur, it could be happening right now and we’d never know it. It never destroyed the world and there is no reason to think it will in the future. There is no evidence that it would effect the electric grids. Right now it is a topic because the 2012 Doomsday hoaxers have seized on it for their own purposes.

All in all, there seems little if anything to be concerned about.

Thomas asks…

If we get a Solar Magnetic storm from sun, strike earth, what do we do?

It is the fact that any magnetic force which radiates as waves will induce a voltage in any cable:If you can understand how electric generators and coils, transformers.work with a frequency of 50 HZ :Then i ask you what Level of electricity will be made at a frequency of 12GHZ approx:Transport will no longer work as most are managed via a on board management system:Optical lines will not work as the devices which send light through them and then decode it ,So no phones:We all should be asking what the Governments agenda is if our Technology stops:There is a lot we can do to protect our family and our friends.FARADAY cages work ,so you can save spare parts ;protect generators . Think just how you will survive a passable solar event ,Like they told us about on the news.Holland people have been told to stock up on water and batteries,Food.etc, Ask your MP.please

Michael answers:

Not much, since we have lived through them before with no ill effects. Power companies already have technologies in place that minimize problems induced by the magnetic flux on power lines and folks who operate and maintain space borne equipment have spares and have circuitry built to withstand those sort of effects.

The biggest, single thing that protects us is our magnetosphere. It deflects the vast majority of the EM radiation away from our planet. A side of effect of this shielding are auroras, which are always nice to look at as a solar storm is passing through.

What you can do also, is read up of what the solar weather is doing, here -

Robert asks…

Why is Obama taking away our Natural Energy when it provides 97% of our Electricity?

America uses 2% wood for energy- Amish etc.
America uses less than 1% of wind turbines and solar for energy.
Yet liberals think we can survive without Coal and Oil?
Are they from another planet?

Taxing us more on Oil and Coal, isn’t going to change these facts. They are only using global warming as an excuse to get more money from us all around. Its a scam!

Think about it, taking more money from the American people isn’t going to Magically make a better energy resourse for us to use.
I think this is a attack on the American people by the ones who hate us and want to destroy us and not about energy at all.

Michael answers:

President Obama is not taking away our natural sources of energy. He, as a matter of fact, has stated that we need to change our energy policy because our country’s supply of petroleum and even coal will someday run out. It has already run out in southern California; I don’t know about Texas. Alaskan oil is there now, but will run out some day. If we just decide to use wood, our forests will be depleted in short order. Presently, we have a lot of coal, but my car doesn’t run on coal, and we will someday run very short of that too. What is your solution?

Wind power, solar energy and nuclear power are all parts of a viable energy solution, and the president stated that we need to expand uses of all of them. That, if you were listening, is also what George W. Bush said, because this happens to be the truth.

Mandy asks…

As climate talks drag on,more ponder techno -fixes,using chemical, biological fixes.?

why not solar collectors in space to shade selected areas. use the energy to power factories ,homes in space. The factories would not pollute the earth.
Excellant points about CO2

Michael answers:

Any geoengineering solution that doesn’t address the excess CO2 in the atmosphere and ocean is a bad idea.

Orbiting power stations are ideas that have been around at least 1/2 a century. Beaming the power back to earth still presents unsolved engineering problems. If those problems are overcome, we could supply all of the electrical power needs of the earth without shading the planet at all. A much smaller investment in a global superconducting power grid, though, would allow us to get continuous power from earth-based solar collectors. Arthur Clarke, a man who’s certainly not biased against space applications, pointed this out.

Freeman Dyson was at least partially right in calling global warming a topsoil management problem. The fossil fuel that we are putting into the air as CO2 was once part of the biosphere. Putting it back into the biosphere – as increased soil carbon, as increased oceanic primary productivity, as replanted forests, as artificial lifeforms growing where agriculture is not currently practiced – makes scientific and practical sense. Thinking about it carefully should allow people to make a profit as well.

Ken asks…

have we reached ‘peak stupid’ on the climate denial?

out in the real world, the latest rash of stupid denial memes seem to be loosing steam. got chatting on the train yesterday with some oz. tourists about the weather, just had to try to explain about the NAO and ENSO (oops, should have just stuck to gardening and the state of the murray darling river basin) and a chap weighed in with ‘al gore’ and the ‘email scandal’ etc.(he later turned out to be a tractor salesman). but the initially skeptic and ‘science virgin’ ozzies seemed more interested and influenced by my science stuff, and took the name of an oz. climate site down to check out when they got home. then we got onto solar power, and surpries! all in agrement that it is a good thing, even the tractor man. smiles all round, talk turned to lovely scotland (i decided not to get started on the clearences).
taking the tourists as the ‘swayable skeptics’ i reckon this was very encouraging, they easily saw the point that any amount of politics is irrelevant, its the science that matters.

have we passed ‘peak stupid’? can we now just get on with just sorting out the mess?
oh dear what a lot of ‘just’s! sorry.
paul, it was getting sticky before that – tractor man was a real alpa male and starting to get a bit riled that i didnt collapse in tears at his baiting, he had to try and make out he was just having a laugh winding up the hippie. it could have gone two ways – i really was on the point of loosing it. he attacked me personally but i could honestly say my fotprint is half uk average and why, at which he started to laugh and wink at the ozzies and make winding motions.
he had already had a pop at wind power and wasnt happy i countered his rubbish with hard figures on payback times. so i went for the obvious common ground (for me) generation nuclear, which he was obviously all for, i tried to explain fast reactors and everyones eyes started to glaze, and i was making a hash of it anyway so i switched mid flow to solar, and it was like coming out of a tunnel. all four of us saying yes, yes, smiling, relieved to be out of the spat.
so my reccomendation, go for solar as the common ground.
napoleon, you are a pathetic little pawn of the oil industry, and you doint even know it. now that was patronising. want some more?
nuclear – 4th generation fast reactors. haha cant even write it right let alone explain in an entertaining way to an audience. i wont try that again for a while.
i dont see how it can possibly get any more ‘stupid’ even in the u.s., what you say is quite alarming, please, please let this be the peak.
i bought a clematis called ‘the president’ when obama was elected. it’s flowering now, a lovely clear blue, and a very healthy plant – no sign of wilt. not a very scientific proxy i know, but i think that the people of sense and good intent will prevail.

paul b, yes, we will see…..

first grade, i agree :-D

Michael answers:

Some journalists attribute the government inaction to the effects of climate change denial. However, a recent Angus Read poll indicates that global warming skepticism in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom has been rising, apparently continuing a trend that has progressed for “months, even years”

There may be multiple causes of this trend, including a focus on economic rather than environmental issues, and a negative perception of the “role the United Nations has played in promoting the global warming issue.

The trend has not peaked yet. But will shortly.

Your Questions About Solar Power Station

Maria asks…

how much land is required for solar panels compared to land for a coal fired power station?

how much land is required for solar panels compared to land for a coal fired power station

Michael answers:

If it has to be a centralized power station, then I’m sure the solar plant takes more area, but that’s not an entirely fair line of thinking.

The coal plant must have a rail line running into it to supply the coal. The total area taken up by the rail corridor could be significant.

Also, in my opinion, solar’s best application is small, distributed generation. In other words, panels on every roof. This is area that is generally not otherwise used, so one might say there is zero additional area is requried. No land to buy, no environmental impact statements, etc.

Richard asks…

Can there be a permanent station to orbit Moon with solar power?

Michael answers:

Yeah if you build it on the moon youve seen what happened to the russian space station myier

Michael asks…

Solar power?

A continuously operating FM radio transmitter with a power output of 1250 W at 99.7 MHz is to be installed in a remote location in South America. Solar power is considered as the most suitable source of power for this transmitter. The transmitter building consumes 1 kW of power for general building upkeep that includes lighting and other office applications.

i. If the transmitter converts only half of its input power to radio frequency, what is the power required by the transmitter to generate the rated transmit power?

ii. Estimate the total power required by this station.

iii. Assume AM1.5 conditions and that the angle of sun’s incident rays to the vertical is 600. Under worst conditions, sun shines for a maximum of 4 hours/day. Calculate the required area of solar panels for reliable operation of the transmitter throughout the year.

Michael answers:

The first two are VERY easy.

I. 1250 * 2 = 2500 watts = 2.5 KW

ii. 1 KW + 2.5 KW = 3.5 KW

iii on your own for this one.

Daniel asks…

How is Solar Energy Obtained? And How is it released at power stations?

1. How is Solar Energy Obtained?
2. And How is it released at power stations?
3. Is Solar Energy Efficient?
4. Is it widely used?

Michael answers:

It is obtained by putting active or passive solar collection devices in the sun, they have to be angled to get the best advantage of the light. I dont know how its released, it is efficient where there is a lot of sun, Its not really as widely used as it should be but i think the technology is getting better and the oil prices are getting out of hand, soon there will be wider usage .

William asks…

Why is solar power at least 50 times as costly as power from coal powered stations.?

Solar power is too expensive to be anything except a curiosity.

Michael answers:

NO. The initial cost, investment is high but then, this cost is recovered soon in few months as the power generated will be from renewable energy source, i,e sun which doesnt costs anythng also, its pollution free n clean.

Your Questions About Solar Power Systems Design

Paul asks…

If there was a time for ‘other life forms’ from outer-space to launch attacks on planet earth…?

…on a mass scale, then surely NOW would be the IDEAL time to hit us – yes ?

1. the global economy has never looked worse…complete meltdown, everyday another small-smallmed buisiness shuts down somewhere, some place on earth. RECESSION is crippling the human race.

2. With the billions of $$$ spent on releif efforts and global aid to help victims of earthquakes, tsunamis, famines etc etc – not nearly enough has been spent on the design and implementation of some form of ‘defence capability’ , and no such ‘mechanism’ is in place by the looks of things to ‘take on’ a threat from outside of our solar system.

3. In short – if we ARE attacked, we’ll be out of our depth with the technology we have at the moment – they’ll roll over us in a week or less. There is nobody in military research wings across the globe who will be taken seriously if they mention devising a counter-attack system against an inter-galactic life form who may or may not have harnessed the power of ion cannons.

4. as a race, we are still in the infancy stages of ‘evolotion’ in terms of ‘colelctiveness’ , compared to our guests from outer space who may actualy come in numbers as 2 or maybe 3,4,5 groups (hailing from their own planets, each with their own technologies ready to take us down like piss-ants that we are).

5. having already mentioned that we are ‘piss-ants’ before our superior alien counterparts who would totaly and utterly own us with their uber superior and deadly technology and weaponry, the mere fact that we watch rubbish like ‘X-factor, pop idol, american idol, dancing on ice and other gay orientated metrosexualised crap on t.v – is reason enough to be attacked and obliterated. We are pathetic in general.

6. we have barely started colonising our moon, never mind other planets – hence we are sitting ducks WAITING to be annexed as a resource platform for other alien races who may be at a disadvantage against their foes, earth may be a space post for them.

So there u have it – we’re in for a rude-awakening SHOULD we be attacked TOMORROW morning , i assure you boys and girls that we are grossly un-prepared for a large scale attack. Remember how we trusted out banks with our money , hahaha and looked what happened. The recession owned us. Now its time for the Aliens to have some fun by totaly kicking our behinds ?

3.

Michael answers:

Why do we always assume that we have so far to go compared to alien races? For all we know, we’re the most advanced race out there.

John asks…

how many of you atheist read scientific facts in Quran?

Just few of the facts to share with you…….

“And we have made the earth egg shaped”.-[Al-Qur’an 79:30]

Science discovered that the universe was in the state of ‘gas’.
Allah says in Holy Qur’an, Surah Fussilat, Ch. No. 41, verse 11, ‘Moreover, in His design He comprehended the sky, and it had been smoke. And He said to it and the earth, come ye together willingly or unwillingly, and they said we come together in willing obedience.

Science discovered that the moon has reflected light of sun.
Allah says in Holy Qur’an, Surah Yunus, Ch. No. 10, Verse No. 5 ‘It is Allah who has created the Sun as a shining glory and the Moon having a reflection of light’.

Allah says in Holy Qur’an, Surah Furqan, Ch. No. 25, Verse No. 61 ‘Blessed is He who has created the constellations in the sky, and placed therein a lamp, and Moon having borrowed light’.

Science discovered that every planet, in solar system, is revolving around the sun and also rotating about its own axis.
Allah says in Holy Qur’an, Surah Al-Anbiya, Ch. No. 21, Verse No. 33. ‘It is Allah who has created the night and the day, the Sun and the Moon, each one travelling in a orbit, with its own motion’.

The Science discovered that the universe is expanding.
Allah says in Holy Qur’an in Surah Dhariat, Ch. No. 51, Verse No. 47 ‘It is We who have constructed with power and skill, the firmaments – and It is We who make the vastness, and the expanding universe’.

Science (Oceanology) discovered the fact that there is barrier between the sweet and bitter water and which does not allow them to mix.
Allah says in Qur’an, Surah Furqan, Ch. No. 25, Verse No 53, ‘It is Allah who has let free two bodies of flowing water one sweet and palpable and the other salt and bitter, and between them there is a ‘Barzakh’, a barrier, which is forbidden to be trespassed’.

Allah says in Holy Qur’an, in Surah Rahman, Ch. No. 55, Verse No. 19 and 20, ‘It is Allah who has let free two bodies of flowing water which meet and between them there is a barrier which is forbidden to be trespassed’.

Allah says in Qur’an in Surah Insaan, Ch. No. 76, Verse No. 2 ‘We have created the human being from a minute quantity of mingled fluids’ (zygote).

Allah says in Qur’an in Surah Najm, Ch. No. 53, Verse No. 45 and 46, ‘We have created the human beings and made them into male and female through minute quantity of liquid which is ejaculated’.

Dr. Moore is not the only scientist to have discussed the Qur’anic verses we will look at in this article. But the fact that he is not a Muslim puts what he has to say in a different light. No one can accuse him of inventing things to defend Islam. His findings will have to be taken seriously by any seeker of truth. In what follows we shall draw from his article entitled “Highlights of Human Embryology in the Koran and the Hadith” which was presented at the Seventh Saudi Medical Meeting at King Faisal University on May 3-6, 1982. At the time, Dr. Moore was Professor of Anatomy and Chairman of the Department, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto

Dr. Keith Moore of the University of Toronto was amazed to find that many modern discoveries in the field of embryology must have been known to the author of the Qur’an, for these facts are either hinted at or stated explicitly in the Qur’an. This is particularly significant because the Qur’an claims to be the verbatim word of God. How could these facts have been known to any human being living in the 7th century? The presence of these in the Qur’an is proof enough that the Qur’an did not come from the mind of any human but must have been revealed from God whose knowledge is perfect and who therefore, knew what scientists will discover in the 20th century

He created you (all) from a single person: then created, of like nature, his mate; and he sent down for you eight head of cattle in pairs: He makes you, in the wombs of your mothers, in stages, one after another, in three veils of darkness. Holy Qur’an (39:6)

Referring to above verse in the Quran, Dr. Moore says: “This verse from the Koran states that God makes you in the wombs of your mothers in stages, one after another, within three veils of darkness.” Then he explains his amazement: “The realization that the embryo develops in stages in the uterus was not discussed or illustrated until the 15th century A.D.

“The staging of human embryos was not proposed until the 1940′s, and the stages used nowadays were not adopted worldwide until a few years ago.”

It is reasonable to interpret the three veils of darkness mentioned in the Koran as:

the mother’s abdominal wall; the wall of the uterus; and the amniochorionic membrane composed of the fused amnion and chorion. These three anatomical layers protect the embryo from external injury.”
well i guess most of the people didn’t even bother to read it before answering it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XL7xxXAu5Wo

Michael answers:

There seem to be a lot of misconceptions here. Mr Notorious is very right in saying that quran is not a scientific document. It’s purpose is not to teach science. The Quran says ‘I taught you what you could know not’. Then there are some people suggesting mistranslation and manipulaed translations. That, i would say, is hard to believe since Quran is in arabic, a language, still very much in the same form as it might have been in 600 A.D and the book is in very straightforward and definite language. A very important thing to be kept in mind, was that prophet Mohammad(SAS) could not read or write, and had certainly never been to greece before prophethood, so that rules out the possibility of his knowing these things by observation or learning. The purpose of these facts, as is very amply demonstrated here, was to refute the claims of Quran being a myth or a concoction, and that it is really and truly Allah’s word; to convince the people that Prophet Mohammad(SAS) was indeed God’s messenger.
Other holy books may contain scientific facts. There is nothing surprising in it, for three of them are definitely Godsend The bible, The book brought by Prophet Moses and Prophet Daud (David in english). The Quran says so. Finally as Allah says “The same book leads some on the right path, and the same book leads others astray”.
For Mr aggymemn… There are some facts in Quran which i know, and which to the best of my knowledge have not been scientifically explored.
1. The quran makes several references to 7 earths and 7 skies and that sky has seven levels.
2. The whole universe, as it is, was made in exactly 6 days.
3. Earth was boiling in the beginning, and solid earth first appeared in the place now known as Mecca.
4. ‘Initially, the earth was quivering, then mountains were placed on it to steady it.’
The last one, i think, i willl ask MIT to verify. That mountains serve this purpose, i think, does not appear in any scientific document.

33. ‘It is Allah who has created the night and the day, the Sun and the Moon, each one travelling in a orbit, with its own motion’

The Science discovered that the universe is expanding.
Allah says in Holy Qur’an in Surah Dhariat, Ch. No. 51, Verse No. 47 ‘It is We who have constructed with power and skill, the firmaments – and It is We who make the vastness, and the expanding universe’.

Stephen Hawking not only realises the truth but also he asks readers to ponder on these realities which have been revealed in Qur’an. He says that all which are being discovered and invented by science prove what the Qur’an has revealed. It was not possible to prove these as that time the science was not much developed.

The presence of these in the Qur’an is proof enough that the Qur’an did not come from the mind of any human but must have been revealed from God whose knowledge is perfect and who therefore, knew what scientists will discover in the 20th century

Atheists there is more then enough evidence from science that God exists so what is stopping you from believing in God ?

Michael answers:

Neither the “Big Bang Theory” nor Evolution does not disprove the bible or God but only someones theological interpretation. On the idea of whether there is a God or not, good science yet remains neutral. Since God is tracing genes in the bible, doesn’t that mean that God new about evolution before science? Does Genesis 30:39 where Jacob is dealing with the flocks of sheep reveals that God had taught him something about genes and how they are passed from generation to generation?

The things spoken about in Genesis 1 that God did in an instant mentally/Spiritually is still unraveling in the progress of time and Genesis 2:1-3 from the point of view of the physical has not yet happened. Now Adam was the start of a new segment of time called the Adamic age (of which the bible deals with) within a much older segment of time that could be millions or billions of years old. Adam was something new introduced to this world. Time is actually insignificant to the God. Genesis 6 speaks about Adam’s offspring (called the Sons of God) being mixed with the humanoid evolved creatures, that were here before Adam, through their daughters. Noah was mixture and so are we. Adam’s offspring introduced language and objectivity to the purely subjective and emotional world of the animal. Adam is the missing link that science has yet to find because of his origin as an angelic genes that were placed in a physical body his bones dissolved after death and so did his descendants that were giant. Not all were physical giants though but some mental and spiritual giants. Adam’s genes remain on this planet but only mentally and spiritually.
The “Big Bang” was neither a bang nor an explosion because there were no atoms yet to vibrate nor were there any to accelerate. What the scientist are actually seeing is physical evidence of “Let there be Light”.

The physical universe is a made up of three ingredients and that is Time, Space, and energy. Space-time causes energy to move at relative rates of speed ( or vibrations) which we experience through the body which is also made up of energy moving at different rates. Every element is simply energy moving at a different vibration. Matter cannot exist without time and space and the amount of space we see is only in relation to our physical size oriented perceptions neither are we aware of energy unless it moves at different rates and we view and experience it from from the point of view of a relative energy vibration. Our perceptions of the physical universe is very much illusory and completely relative. The reason we search for answers is because down deep we realize how little we know about Truth (reality). Truth (reality) is Un-relative and is our True and always in the Present Origin. Our True and always Present Origin is the Image-less Spirit of Life our Loving Father whom Jesus was introducing us too and asking us to lay down the time created and illusion rooted self identity. Illusion is that which appears, seems real, but then disappears and Truth (reality) is that which is always. One day the Eternal Fire of the Truth is going to destroy all illusion along with those who walked in it because it suited and soothed the lust and desires of the self and they will cease to exist even in memory after judgment. The door way to Eternity is not in the future but always in the Present just as Life is always in the Present.

Who needs Israel? Don’t we all?

Many Western and European political leaders have come dangerously close to deciding that little Israel is the “thorn in the side” of world order. Their logic goes something like “Who needs Israel? Let her be erased, her people dispersed (or whatever), and the Middle East can settle comfortably into a harmonious Islamic community of states. Problem solved!”

Israel, the 100th smallest country, with less than 1/1000th of the world’s population, can make claim to an astounding number of society’s advances in almost every direction. Israel leads the world in the number of scientists and technicians in the workforce, with 145 per 10,000

Israeli researchers have:

-Invented (VoIP) technology
-Discovered the molecular trigger that causes psoriasis
-Developed Ex-Press shunt to provide relief for glaucoma sufferers
-Unveiled a blood test that diagnoses heart attacks . . . by telephone!
-Developed the first fully computerized, no-radiation, diagnostic instrumentation for breast cancer
-Designed the first flight system to protect passenger and freighter aircraft against missile attack
-Developed the first ingestible video camera, so small it fits inside a pill — enabling doctors to diagnose cancer and digestive disorders

These are only a few of Israel’s recent contributions to the welfare of the world. There are just too many to list here. Water shortage, global warming, space travel, anti-virus, anti-smallpox, blood pressure, solar power, paralysis, diabetes, data storage — these and hundreds more — are being addressed by her scientists.

They’re pioneering in DNA research, using tiny strands to create human transistors that can literally build themselves — and playing an important role in identifying a defective gene that causes a rare and usually fatal disease in Arab infants!

Who needs Israel? Let’s be honest. We all do.

Your Questions About Building 24

Linda asks…

How do I film a building for 24 hours?

I’m planing to film a building every 10 seconds every 10 minutes for 24 hours for a project for Uni.

Any ideas are welcome?

Michael answers:

It is called a intervalometer and some of the G series Canons have them. Awesome function. I wish more cameras featured it!

I used a G camera and a large helium weather balloon to photograph the back 40 as it drifted over my property. Very cool.

Helen asks…

How many amps desirable for an old 24 unit building?

We have 800 amps coming into a 100 year-old 24 unit building. It would cost $60,000 to increase that to 1600 amps. What standards should we be following? The building rules prohibit electric stoves and dyers, and there is controversy about a steam shower I just installed. Would 1600 amp be enough to change those restrictions?

Michael answers:

I would have to agree with the other poster. You should have a talk with your electric companies engineer

Laura asks…

Footer size for 14’8” x 24’ building?

I am planning on building a 14’8” x 24’ storage building with 8’ tall concrete block walls with a Gambrel Roof for extra storage space. I will be using a monolithic slab, but I was wondering what size the footer should be. The location is central Florida.

Should the slab be a little bigger than the finished building?

Michael answers:

If you make the footer wider and longer than the finished building , you run the risk of water collecting on the edge and eventually running under the blocks…i would try to lay out the footer to the exact size…i would make my footer trench 12″x12″ and pour a 4 in. Slab…

China is building 24 nuclear plants & plans 6-fold increase in nuke plants to cut global warming. Shouldn’t?

… 0bama and Pelosi applaud China for saving the planet and follow their example by ramping up our nuclear power production?

Michael answers:

- They DO applaud China for this.
- They will NOT allow us to follow their example because that might prevent global communist hegemony.

Above reasoning aside, it is undeniable that 100% of today’s elected Democrats have always fought AGAINST any means of DOMESTIC energy production. (they like to throw tax-money at their friends’ alternative energy boondoggles, but only as long as they are actually net CONSUMERS of energy.)

Your Questions About Photovoltaics

Mandy asks…

What is bad about Solar Photovoltaics?

i am doing this for my class and some extra information would be very helpful thanks =)

Michael answers:

1) High cost of solar cells.

2) Low efficiency. Most cells currently in use have an energy conversion ratio in the range 12 to 19.5%. That is the energy delivered in the form of electricity as compared to the energy in the incoming sunlight. New devices are being developed with efficiencies up to 40% but it remains to be seen if these will be durable in actual use.

3) Solar cells produce DC electricity. So devices that require AC must first use a device that changes the DC to AC. That involves a cost, and a loss of energy. Many devices these days use DC power (eg flat screen TVs but they are fitted with a device that turns AC to DC – it is doubly inefficient to use these in conjunction with a solar electric system).

4) requirement to use electricity from the grid (at night etc) which requires another electronic device, or use expensive batteries to store electricity for use at night.

James asks…

how do photovoltaics work?

can you tell me how photovoltaics work?

Michael answers:

You get a semiconductor and when a photon hits it, it knocks an electron loose causing a potential difference in the silicon and a current.

Thomas asks…

Solar Cells/Photovoltaics: What is the density of SiC/PEG (polyethylene glycole) slurry?

(And its price if u can possible get it?)

Anybody know?

Thank you

Michael answers:

There are two very different types of solar panels. The first is the one that is in the news quite a bit. These are the photovoltaic panels. They convert sunlight to electricity and were invented around 1950 if I recall correctly. Current developments have brought the panels to an efficiency level of around 40% with hopes to get it to around 60%, but what you will buy, on the street, will be around 14%. This might be compared with photosynthesis which is around 6%.

The other types of panel are the solar thermal panels. These have been around to heat water for at least 100 years. They capture the sun’s heat energy. As heat is often a wasted bi-product the efficiency of these units can be from 60 to 80%. The units tend to be cheaper and payback far shorter for solar photovoltaic panels. The latest development is vacuum tube collectors that are more effective on cloudy days and in cold environments. Some use phase change materials.

But as solar thermal panels tend to circulate water as a heat transfer medium there can be an issue with freezing. One of the several solutions to this is a system that includes an antifreeze in the water. The required density of the mixture will depend upon the burst protection level that is desired and the type of material will dictate the freeze protection required. Please see the articles below.

Michael asks…

mathematical relationship between power and distance in photovoltaics?

Michael answers:

The general relationship is that the light at a given distance varies inversely with the square of the distance.

Assume that at 1-unit distance, the light intensity is 1. At 2 units, the intensity decreases to 1/4 (1/2 squared). At 4 units, the intensity decreases to 1/16 (1/4 squared).

Steven asks…

what is the useful band or emf range for light in producing electricity via photovoltaics?

Michael answers:

It’s about 350 to 1100 nm wavelength for silicon photovoltaics.

Your Questions About Solar Energy Panels

William asks…

What do you do with excess amount of energy from solar panels?

If you produce more than enough energy with your solar panels, do you have to sell the excess energy to the utility company or is there a way to store it for later use?

Michael answers:

It’s really hard to store the energy locally and recover it at a better price than paying the utility company.

In an area that has a “net metering” plan, the utility company acts just like a huge storage battery in practice.

Let’s say you had some actual batteries in your house, and the solar array generated 1 kWh more than you need during the day. You would charge those batteries, then draw the 1 kWh out at night. Net charge from the utility company: zero. But you would still have to buy the batteries and charger, and deal with the hassle of maintaining the batteries.

With net zero metering, if the array generates 1 kWh excess during the day, you drive your meter backwards, effectively selling to the electric company. At night, when you draw out the 1 kWh, the meter advances again, showing a net advance of zero. Net charge from the utility company: zero. Financially the same, except no batteries.

The example above is just an approximation, though. Some utility companies have various ways of charging you even though your net usage is zero.

Charles asks…

can you make money from solar energy panels?

Michael answers:

Generally yes. You will have to get the utility company to install a different elec meter. Any power that your solar system creates that you don’t use gets fed into the city’s power grid. They have to pay you, (or give you credit) for that power.

Installing a solar system is very expensive. It takes a long time to pay for itself, let alone “make” you money. I still like them though because its the only way to get power without robbing it from the earth, and I love the earth. Sustainability is very important to me. Furthermore, as humans continue to kill this planet, and blindly consume its resourses, cost of conventional energy sources will rise. This is when you’ll have the last laugh.

Jenny asks…

Some cons of solar panels generating energy for towns?

Michael answers:

We MUST learn to live on less. If we can spend $1000 now and get a solar system that will allow you to run a fridge and a few lights, it will pay off in no time at all. We don’t remember a time when the “ice box” was a necessity above anything else in the home. I think the time will return when having enough power just to keep food cold, will be a matter of life or death.

Steven asks…

I need some solar panels as my outdoor energy source. If I want a 60 watt one, guys can give some advice?

Not expensive, esay to install and can recharges all my stuff.

Michael answers:

60 watts is BIG, AND expensive. You are talking 5 amps at 12 volts! And you are looking at hundreds of dollars! I have a 6 watt panel I use in my RV, which gives 500ma at 12 volts on a clear bright sunny day, which is enough to keep my batteries topped off from minimal use, but NOT something I could use to power this laptop I am using NOW to write this answer! YOU face the exact SAME problem. I have a friend who took the Y2K thing seriously, so seriously he moved off the grid. He bought a house and went solar. He spent over $20,000 on the panels and batteries he needed. And then consider this, the batteries do not last forever, so figure on about another $12K to replace the batteries at about 10 year intervals and another $8K to replace the solar panels as well. Solar panels DO “wear” over time and produce less and lass power per year. So, he is spending about $2K per year to maintain his solar power, which confidentially is about the SAME he would have spent if he stayed tied to the grid and paid for his electricity! There is NO benefit from converting to solar in a cost out of pocket expense, and you have the added time and trouble of maintaining the system. You have to clean the dust off the panels on a regular basis, or the dust blocks light and your panels lose output. So, there is NO inexpensive route that you can take since there is no cost-benefit in your favor. One of two things has to happen, or both before it makes financial sense to convert: the cost of the equipment has to go down or the cost of commercial electricity has to go up. The way things are today, you gain nothing by converting except the knowledge that you are having a slightly greener footprint in greenhouse gasses…

Donna asks…

how do solar panels get energy when its cloudy?

Your Questions About Home Solar Panels

Maria asks…

has anyone built one of those home made solar panels and do they cut your utility bills?

Michael answers:

Building your own panel could be a fun thing to do, but it would generally not save money.

Here is a link debunking one of those “build your own panel” sites: http://www.nlcpr.com/Deceptions6.php

George asks…

Has anyone installed solar panels to their home? What has been your experience with them?

How much did it cost? What are the pros and cons?

Michael answers:

Well i run my home on totally solar . But I made and set up my own just kind of made a hobby out of it . The biggest pro and con is instillation fees . That was the reason i built my own .

There’s allot of money to be made in solar today and allot of people taking advantage of it . Another words your dealing with high price salesmen . Kind of like having a vacuum cleaner salesmen telling you why there vacuum is better the the next when in reality they all suck ..

Just like anything ells you have to shop around and maybe do like i did and shop around so much that i figured out how to do it myself . Big savings , Big Big savings .

Lizzie asks…

Where can I find a calculator that sums the total investment of solar panels of my home?

I think it used Google Earth I could draw the area the panels would be installed

Michael answers:

You’re looking for RoofRay – http://www.roofray.com/

You can outline the roof, tell it the pitch, and it will figure out how much area you have available for solar panels and what they might produce in your area, assuming no shading issues.

You can also put in utility bills, and it will give you an estimate of savings, ROI, etc.

David asks…

Does installing solar panels in home makes sense in seattle area?

Michael answers:

North Seattle bungalow has solar panels will be placed on the garage roof.
Solar panels do not need alot of direct sunlight,

Donald asks…

Home-made solar panels VS. 30% federal tax credit?

Do my home-made solar panels and all necessary supplies (wiring, mounting equipment, etc…) qualify for the 30% federal tax credit?

Michael answers:

No, home-made goods do not qualify since they don’t have the manufacturer’s EPA certification.

Your Questions About Pv System

Donald asks…

What are Enthalpy, Gibbs Free Energy, and Helmholtz Free Energy in physics terms?

Hello,

I am currently taking a course in thermal physics, and I am confused about the meanings of enthalpy, Gibbs free energy, and Helmholtz free energy. I know the formulas, but I would like to understand qualitatively what they mean in terms of physics (not chemistry).

For example, my textbook tells me that enthalpy is the energy needed to create a system out of nothing. Due to this definition, H=U+PV, the internal energy of the system, plus the work required to push away the surrounding air to make room for the system. I think I understand this fairly well.

However, I really seem to have trouble with the meanings of the free energies:
G=U+PV-TS=H-TS
Therefore, Gibbs free energy is the energy that you yourself need to put in to create a system because some of the energy needed can be taken from the environment (TS).

For Helmholtz free energy, F=U-TS. I am not sure what this means in the sense of the other two definitions above, why is it important?

Thank you in advance for the help.

Michael answers:

The reason you’re having difficulty is that your textbook answer is more than a bit misleading. It seems to be trying to oversimplify the meaning and importance of the various free energies to the point of incorrectness. I really recommend that you discuss this in some detail with your instructor.

Enthalpy is certainly not ” the energy needed to create a system out of nothing.” Property *changes* can be equal to how much work is required to do a thing or how much heat flows in a process, but the property itself (an energy) cannot be equal to work (a flow of energy). It’s almost like saying that gravity is equal to the amount of work an object can do when it falls to the ground. Of course they are related, but they are not identical at all.

But even introducing the word “change” into the text reference is not quite right because work is only proportional to p * deltaV when the work is done reversibly and at constant external pressure. And so on, and on, with F and G.

I’d love to know what textbook you are using because it sounds like imprecise nonsense to me, and I’ve been teaching the subject for over two decades. Again I suggest that you consult with your instructor. Also try reading other texts; there are dozens of thermal physics texts out there.

Ruth asks…

I need help with this chemistry.?

Assume that a particular reaction evolves 235 Kj of heat and that 40 Kj of PV work is gained by the system.

1)What are the values of ?E and ?H for the system?

2) for the surroundings?
?E
?H

The familiar “ether” used as an anesthetic agent is diethyl ether,C4H10O . Its heat of vaporization is +26.5 Kj/mol at its boiling point.

1)How much energy (in kilojoules) is required to convert 120 mL of diethyl ether at its boiling point from liquid to vapor if its density is 0.7138 g/mL ?

thanks!

Michael answers:

I don’t mean to be ‘that person’ but you had best go to your teacher for help rather than waiting for a response on here. He or she will be able to help you learn the material rather than just giving you the answer… That way you won’t have any more troubles :)

Mandy asks…

Physics problem– stuck on the second part!?

Consider a system in which 1.10 mol of an ideal monatomic gas is expanded at a constant pressure of 101 kPa from an initial volume of 2.15 L to a final volume of 3.13 L.

(1) Find the change in temperature for this process.
i used pv=nRt and found this answer to be 10.9 K

(2) Determine the amount of heat added to or removed from the system during this process.
_____J
THANK YOU!!!!!

Michael answers:

The gas is expanded at constant pressure.
So, Q=nCT ;where n is no.of moles
c is molar heat capacity at constant pressure
T is change in temperature
Q=1.10*(5/2*R)*10.9
= 249.21J
