Gibbs recommended that the board review and consider the award to the lowest bidder.The reason, he said, the amount is significantly lower is because Nick Champi Enterprises is concurrently involved in three large jobs and therefore can reduce the cost of the materials.
Superintendent John Snavely said the project was ready to be moved on immediately and could be completed in 10 days.
The board voted unanimously, minus Lillian Durbin who was not present, to award Nick Champi the job.
Also on the agenda was the discussion of a school district surplus sale.
“We have accumulated a large amount of outdated equipment, desks and computers and electronics that may or may not work,” Gibbs said.
Anticipated items are comprised primarily of outdated computer components, desks, furniture, and other miscellaneous items no longer required or needed by the district.
“It is hoped that we can obtain a single bid for all of the obsolete computer equipment and electronics for recycling.”
A tentative date of Dec. 10 was proposed as the date for the surplus sale, with the sale being held at the enclosed storage area of the Porterville Adult School building, with proceeds from the sale placed into the general fund.

It can be powered from a 12V solar panel or by hand cranking, and 15 minutes of cranking provides up to three hours of electricity. the BENBEN Eco Geezer provides hot water on demand without the need for a storage tank or heating element, saving up to 80 percent on electricity costs compared to traditional hot water geysers. the City of Cape Town exhibit, which can be found in an interesting plastic crate structure, runs completely on solar and wind-powered energy."We’ve got a hand-held LCD screen here so we can read at any time how much power we are drawing, and what we’re putting back into Durban," said Stephen Lamb, Director of Touching the Earth Lightly.the Swiss stand promotes an extremely relevant vertical shaft brick kiln (VSBK) technology that is energy efficient and cost effective. Firing bricks is an energy intensive process that typically results in high greenhouse gas emissions. the VSBK technology is said to reduce CO2 emissions by 50-60 percent compared to conventional firing techniques and reduces particulate emissions by up to 90 percent. the open source VSBK technology facilitates access to green funds and the CDM market, and the Swiss have provided technical support for a pilot plant in Jeffrey’s Bay in the Eastern Cape. even though South Africa has to wait until 2015 for the Joule, an electric automobile, interest has been rife in the vehicle."due to no spark plugs and no mechanical moving parts in the engine, the maintenance and longevity of an electric vehicle far outperforms today’s combustion engines, only requiring a service every 45 000kms," said Jaco van Loggerenberg, Communications Manager of Optimal Energy.It comes as no surprise that Japan’s stand is filled with technologies, from state-of-the art energy saving heat pumps to innovative steam traps used to reduce CO2 emissions from oil refinery processes. Nov. 7 (Bloomberg) — Solyndra LLC, the bankrupt solar- panel maker under investigation over a $535 million loan guarantee from the U.S. government, collected $6.2 million from a two-day auction of non-core assets.
The company sold items that aren’t essential to its operation, from spare equipment and solar panels to memorabilia such as banners and shirts emblazoned with Solyndra’s logo. more than 3,900 bidders registered for the auction, which was held at its headquarters in Fremont, California, as well as online, according to court papers.
a scanning electron microscope purchased by Earl Weltmer of Scanservice Corp. fetched the highest price, going for $255,000, according to court documents. some items, such as Dell inc. computer monitors, sold for as little as $50.
Solyndra has yet to secure an offer from anyone willing to act as lead bidder at an auction of its business, according to court filings. The company plans to hold that auction on Nov. 18, followed by a Nov. 22 court hearing to seek approval of the sale. Potential buyers have until Nov. 16 to bid.
The solar-panel maker filed for Chapter 11 reorganization on Sept. 6 and was raided two days later by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Solyndra listed about $854.1 million in assets and about $867.1 million in debt in court papers filed Oct. 31.
Solyndra’s collapse prompted congressional scrutiny of U.S. President Barack Obama, who praised the company during a May 2010 tour of its facilities. The company faces probes by the FBI and Republicans in Congress over the federal loan guarantee it used to build a $733 million factory.
The case is in re Solyndra LLC, 11-12799, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, District of Delaware (Wilmington).
